As the Ontario Research Chair in Public Policy for Sustainable Energy (2007-2020) and Executive Director of WISE, Prof. Nathwani led the University of Waterloo’s energy research activities for 12 years.
During this time, we achieved transformative impacts, including:
- Securing $40 million in funding to advance energy research.
- Building numerous partnerships with governments and industry to drive collaborative innovation.
- Overseeing 90+ funded projects spanning diverse energy research areas.
- Actively engaging a network of 130+ faculty members, cultivating interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Contributing to an impressive body of work with 6300+ research publications and 900 graduate theses.
While Prof. Nathwani’s leadership at WISE covered a broad spectrum of energy research, his personal research interests focus on:
- Policy-driven innovations for clean energy transitions.
- Strategies to advance environmental sustainability through effective decision-making frameworks.
- Developing and applying the Life Quality Index (LQI) as a tool to improve life safety and inform sustainable energy decisions.
With over 200 publications in these domains, Prof. Nathwani committed to advancing solutions that bridge policy and practice to achieve a sustainable energy future.
